Lime says to launch e-scooters in Abu Dhabi
US-based Lime, the urban mobility provider, has announced plans to launch in Abu Dhabi, with the first e-scooters set to hit the streets this weekend.
The UAE capital is the first market in the GCC to launch Lime scooters and joins a network of over 120 cities worldwide.
An initial fleet of 300 scooters will be available at locations along the capital city’s 8km-long Corniche.
Lime joins Berlin-based Circ which was the first to deploy e-scooters in the UAE capital in September.
Mohamad Nsouli, general manager, Lime UAE, will head up operations after joining the company from Careem, where he was previously the commercial head for new ride hailing services.
He said: “Abu Dhabi is a great city for electric scooters and we’re really excited that it will be Lime’s first market in the GCC. We’re working together with the Abu Dhabi authorities to make the city even more connected and bring a fun, smart and convenient solution to get around.”
With over 100 million rides globally, Lime aims to reduce the number of cars on the road with one in four riders saying their last Lime ride replaced a car trip.
To use Lime, riders simply download the app, locate a scooter on the map, and unlock it with the tap of a button. When the ride is completed, riders follow in app instructions to end the ride and responsibly park it.
Riding on Lime will cost AED3 to unlock and every minute of riding will be an additional AED1.
