UAE's new Kalba, Khor Fakkan roads to open in end-2019, Q1 2020
The UAE’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MoID)said its road projects in Kalba and Khor Fakkan had noted major construction progress, with the former scheme marking the ministry's first instance of using artificial intelligence (AI) to implement satellite work on the project.
The AED60m Kalba project, now in its second phase, is 93% complete, while the AED150m Khor Fakkan road scheme, now in Phase 3, is 73% complete, reports Construction Week Online.
The projects will respectively complete in end-2019 and Q1 2020.
The Kalba road project connects Khalifa Bin Zayed Federal Road to the Kalba Corniche, and extends to the Khatam Al Melaha border with Oman.
Upon completion, it is expected to reduce traffic from Kalba to Sharjah and Dubai without passing through the streets of Fujairah, which in turn would shorten travel times between the cities.
Meanwhile, Khor Fakkan’s hub network includes roads in all parts of the city, according to UAE state news agency, Wam.
MoID stated the projects’ key focus areas were time, resources, and sustainability, and added that modified asphalt was being used with polymers to ensure longer life for asphalt layers during maintenance.
