Hafeet Rail commences groundwork for Omani-Emirati railway link

Hafeet Rail has announced the commencement of preparatory work for constructing the first-of-its-kind railway link between Oman and the UAE. During a site visit attended by key officials, Asyad and Hafeet Rail executive teams, and project contractors and consultants, the venture’s significant role in enhancing local and regional trade was highlighted.

The visit included introductions to key passengers, repair, shipping stations, and crucial bridge and tunnel sites.

The project is expected to play a vital role in fostering economic diversification, strengthening bilateral relations, and unlocking new infrastructure, transportation, and logistics opportunities.

Advanced rail engineering and technology

The Hafeet Rail team presented the latest rail technologies and innovative engineering solutions to overcome the region’s challenging geographical terrain and weather conditions.

The construction will include 60 bridges, some as tall as 34 metres, and tunnels extending 2.5 kilometres.

The network ensures high efficiency and safety standards, following international best practices.

The rail will connect five significant ports and several industrial and free zones, promising a 40% reduction in shipping costs and a 50% reduction in transit times compared to traditional land transportation methods.

The shift will reduce reliance on road transport and promote more sustainable shipping practices.

Oman-UAE stimulating growth

Ahmed Al Bulushi, Asyad Group Chief Executive Asset Management, praised the engineers and architects whose ingenuity and precision bring this visionary project to life.

He emphasised that the project’s rapid progress reflects the dedication of both nations to advancing development and reaping the multifaceted rewards as quickly as possible.

Ahmed Al Musawa Al Hashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, stated, “The commencement of preparatory works is a testament to the robust synergy between all parties involved. We are confidently laying down the right tracks thanks to the shareholders of Hafeet Rail and the expertise of local companies in Oman and the UAE, in addition to international partners.”
