An investigation is underway after a fire tore through the superstructure of a vessel undergoing refit and repair work in a shipyard in Abu Dhabi.

The incident occurred at a shipyard in the Mussaffah area, home to a sprawling complex of jetties, oil service providers, and shipyards specialising in oil rigs and offshore support vessels.

The wider port area is one of shipyards, steel companies, glass manufacturers and industrial suppliers.
