Fire tears through ship in Abu Dhabi shipyard, investigation underway
An investigation is underway after a fire tore through the superstructure of a vessel undergoing refit and repair work in a shipyard in Abu Dhabi.
The incident occurred at a shipyard in the Mussaffah area, home to a sprawling complex of jetties, oil service providers, and shipyards specialising in oil rigs and offshore support vessels.
The wider port area is one of shipyards, steel companies, glass manufacturers and industrial suppliers.
The vessel was still in place on Wednesday afternoon with black scorch marks visible on its bow and forward superstructure.
Sources, who did not wish to give their names, told The National the fire took place several days ago.
It is believed the vessel is linked to the oil and gas industry.
Police on Wednesday said Civil Defence teams had prevented the blaze from gutting the entire ship.
The cause of the fire is still unclear, but no one is believed to have been injured by the incident.
