Saudi Arabian Cargo enters Nigeria

GSA agreement with local firm signals GCC giant's move into Africa's most populous country

Medview Airlines will become general sales agent (GSA) to Saudi Arabian Airlines cargo division in Nigeria’s two largest cities, according to the local Vanguard newspaper.

The newspaper stated that Medview’s general manager, David Babatunde, had disclosed this information on the arrival of the airline’s inaugural flight to the Nigerian capital, Lagos, and had added that his company had been chosen due to its strong track record in airlifting Muslim pilgrims to the Kingdom.

“Medview has over 30 years experience in commercial airline business, and we shall bring that to bear to consummate this relationship,” said Babatunde, according to the Vanguard.

“By the agreement, Medview will source cargo in Nigeria for Saudi Cargo Company in Lagos and Abuja,” he added.

If confirmed, the move to take on cargo services to Nigeria will not come as a surprise. Other regional carriers, including Emirates SkyCargo and Etihad Crystal Cargo, are expanding their services in the country. Emirates added a second daily flight to Lagos at the beginning of February.
