A FedEx Express freighter enroute from Dubai to Bangalore in India was forced to make an emergency landing at the city’s Kempegowda International Airport due to a technical fault.

According to local media, the scheduled FedEx cargo flight made an emergency landing on Thursday night, disrupting several passenger flights at the airport.

The single runway was closed from 8.34pm to 8.54pm, delaying seven departures and eight arrivals, according to Bangalore International Airport Limited, operator of KIA.

However, the cascading effect on this suspension disrupted the schedules of several flights beyond midnight.

The disruption also affected flight arrivals from Delhi, Kochi, Mangaluru and Pune. Hundreds of passengers were kept waiting at the originating airports for hours.

There is no clarity yet on the nature of the technical problem and investigations are underway.
