VIDEO: New footage shows moment of Amazon Air plane crash
Newly released security footage shows the crash of an Atlas Air Boeing 767 cargo jet chartered to Amazon Air, the air freight arm of the global e-commerce company.
The jet is seen in newly released security footage diving at a steep angle moments before crashing into a shallow bay in Texas on February 23rd, killing three crew members on board.
Capt. Ricky Blakeley, First Officer Conrad Jules Aska and an aviator from Mesa Airlines, pilot Sean Archuleta, were killed in the crash.
The video from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office captures the final seconds of Flight 3591 as it nose-dived into Trinity Bay, near Anahuac, Texas.
The crash happened near the end of a Miami-to-Houston flight, and while the cockpit voice recorder has been recovered, investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are still unsure what caused the crash.
The AP also reported that cockpit audio suggests the pilots lost control while preparing to land, but the NTSB has not yet explained why.
Flight tracking data showed that the aircraft lost more than 3,000 feet of altitude in 30 seconds before the crash.
