Dubai Customs is set to implement a number of modifications and enhancements to Mirsal2, its electronic customs clearance system.
The changes, set to be implemented by the end of July, will allow importers to declare their goods via the web, without having to submit any paper forms.
“This translates into cargo being cleared by customs even before the goods arrive in Dubai, allowing importers to collect their goods from the air and sea ports as soon as they arrive, meaning a faster time to market for goods,” said Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, executive director of the customer management division at Dubai Customs.
According to a statement sent to LogisticsMiddleEast.com, Mirsal2 was developed entirely by Dubai Customs and keeps the country in line with international standards and practices.
The changes and their benefits have been communicated to the country’s courier community via a series of briefings.
To use the system, companies have to register with Dubai Customs and join the Dubai Trade portal. Users then receive a digital certificate that they use to electronically sign their customers declarations.
“Clients no longer need to present their declaration documents to customs to clear their goods,” said Musabih.
“By using a digital certificate, clients can electronically sign their declaration, submit it online for processing and receive a response back from customs within minutes.”
