Oman's Salalah Free Zone to get BTC's $20m logistics wholesale city
Oman’s BTC Company has signed an agreement with the Salalah Free Zone Company (SFZCO) to set up a 10ha logistics wholesale city in the Salalah Free Zone with an investment of $20m (OMR7.7m), with the facility set to create more than 1,500 direct jobs in the Sultanate.
In a series of tweets on its Twitter account SFZCO also revealed that construction work on the project will commence in Q1 2020, with the contract being signed by chief executive officer of SFZCO, Ali Tabouk and chairman of the board of directors of BTC, Ahmed bin Alawi Ba Aqil.
Speaking about the deal, Tabouk said: "Salalah Logistics Wholesale City will provide more than 2,000 integrated commercial units with high international standards, where it will include exhibitions, warehouses, and offices of international companies engaged in wholesale trade."
He added: "Salalah Logistic Wholesale City aims to be the favourite and attractive place for many goods and materials at competitive prices in the Sultanate".
Earlier this month, SFZCO had signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia’s National Steel Company to establish an iron products' manufacturing factory worth $500m (OMR192.3m) within the free zone, with construction on the facility also set to begin in the first quarter of 2020.
