The inauguration of a bilateral linkage of the traffic systems between the UAE and Qatar has been announced by Abu Dhabi.

A meeting held in Abu Dhabi between the delegations of the two countries passed this move and also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in the policing and security fields.

During the meeting, the parties announced the completion of the linkage of the traffic systems as part of an integrated GCC project aimed at exchanging information, unifying procedures, and facilitating the services provided.

The MoI had last week announced rolling out a similar project that connects the traffic systems between the UAE and Bahrain.

UAE Kuwait interlinked traffic violations

Interestingly, in October 2022 as per an Arabian Business report, the UAE and Kuwait also interlinked their traffic fine system.

As per the integrated project, any UAE citizen or resident committing a traffic violation during their visit to Kuwait will be required to pay the fine upon return to the UAE. It should be noted that the fine will amount to the currency equivalent. Furthermore, it is applicable to both personal and rental vehicles.

Similarly, any Kuwaiti citizen or resident who visits the UAE and commits a traffic violation will be made to pay the fine upon return to Kuwait. Here the data will be recorded under the title External Violation.

In a meeting between the UAE and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior in September 2022, both technical teams discussed the way forward in terms of linking traffic violations between the two countries and also the technicalities for registering and collecting the violation electronically.

As per the integration, once the fine is collected in the country of residence, it will automatically be sent to the Traffic Violations Collection Department towards the fine recorded in the country of violation. The automated linking process for violations and their collection between the two countries will be activated as a first step in early December, i.e. after 3 months.

These developments come after Abu Dhabi announced fines ranging from AED 200-AED 500 on bicycles and e-bike violations for the non-compliance of safety rules. It should be noted that these initiatives come as part of ongoing efforts across the UAE to adhere to strict safety and security standards to minimise risks, given the spike in the use of public and private transportation.
