As the world gears up to celebrate World Health Day, attention is drawn to the UAE’s efforts to cement its status as a leading force in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. The UAE is fast evolving into a powerhouse for healthcare excellence and pharmaceutical innovation thanks to visionary initiatives like the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030 and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

A key goal for UAE leaders has been to diminish reliance on imported pharmaceuticals and focus instead on enhancing local manufacturing capabilities.

The projections are bright. The UAE’s pharmaceutical market is expected to rise to $4.7 billion by 2025, driven by the escalating demand for superior patient care and innovative medical technologies.

World Health Day: A universal call to action

As World Health Day approaches, Abdulla Al Hashmi, DP World’s Chief Operating Officer for Parks & Zones in the GCC region, discusses this year’s theme: ‘My Health, My Right.’

He underscores that this year’s theme “serves as a global reminder of the fundamental belief that access to quality healthcare is not a luxury for the few but an essential for all.”

The UAE’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sector is brimming with potential. It offers advanced manufacturing processes and access to a network of world-leading experts.

Key to this sector’s success is the global strategic collaborations with educational institutions, which drive forward a culture of innovation and excellence.

Jafza: The epicentre of healthcare in Dubai

Jafza, DP World’s flagship free zone, is pivotal to Dubai’s ambition to become a global healthcare hub.

With its robust infrastructure, regulatory support, and advanced manufacturing facilities, Jafza has attracted over 460 healthcare and pharmaceutical companies from more than 70 countries, representing about 48% of Dubai’s total pharmaceutical trade value.

Al Hashmi states, “In the past five years, the trade value of Jafza’s pharma cluster has grown by 17%, showing its key role in driving the industry’s progress.”

A future of healthcare excellence

With Jafza at the helm, the UAE is setting the stage for Dubai to become a global centre for medical breakthroughs and pharmaceutical excellence.

Al Hashmi describes, “Our advanced facilities, specialising in cargo handling and cold storage, empower the rapid expansion of the UAE’s healthcare sector”, showing DP World’s instrumental role in the rapid development of the UAE’s healthcare sector, paving the way for a future where healthcare innovation knows no borders.
