Oman’s flagship ports, Salalah, Sohar, and Duqm, boasted an 8% surge in their operations in 2022, with over 62.3 million tonnes of general cargo handled, marking a 10% increase from the previous year.

Strong performance
Collectively, the three ports managed by Oman’s Asyad Group handled over 23.7 million tonnes of liquid cargo, a 22% upturn compared to 2021. Meanwhile, the number of containers handled stood at nearly 5.2 million TEUs, with more than 1.59 million heads of livestock and 71,700 vehicles and equipment handled and more than 6,500 vessels received in 2022.
The Port of Salalah ranked second on the Container Ports Performance Index 2021 list of the most efficient container ports in the world, with 1157 containers handled in one day, marking the highest in the port’s history of operation.
In addition, Sohar Port received the first batch of containers originating from Singaporean and Malaysian ports via ASYAD Lines in 2022, with a full occupancy rate of 100%, indicating an expected annual operating volume of 100,000 TEUs for the line alone.
Correspondingly, the Sultanate reported more than $1.5 billion (OMR600 million) in confirmed investments across the Sohar Free Zone, Salalah Free Zone, and Khazaen Economic City.
