Waha Land starts construction on Almarkaz project

Waha Land has commenced the first phase of construction on its Almarkaz mixed-use industrial development in Abu Dhabi, with the first units scheduled for handover in the second quarter of 2011.

System Construct has been appointed as the contractor, with responsibility for building 90,000m2 of light industrial buildings; while infrastructure work will be constructed by Bin Hafeeze General Contracting in phase one.

“We are very happy to announce the appointment of System Construct and Bin Hafeez Contracting as contractors for the first phase of the project,” commented Salem Rashid Al Noaimi, chief executive officer of Waha Capital. “They share our strong commitment to professionalism, excellence, team-work and timely delivery. We look forward to working closely with them to deliver a high quality project that provides premium warehousing and light industrial space to the Abu Dhabi market. ”

The development of Almarkaz has been divided into four phases, the first of which will occupy 1.5km2, featuring 220,000m2 of warehouses, 285,000m2 of light industrial units, 90,000m2 of small light industrial units, 19,000m2 of commercial space, and 5000m2 of office space.

“Almarkaz offers several unique advantages to investors and end-users,” stated Hazem Saeed Al-Nowais, chief operating officer of Waha Land. “The infrastructure and building mix has been specifically designed to meet the needs of start-ups, as well as small or large enterprises and recognises the requirement of businesses to grow and easily upgrade to larger premises over time without major relocation.”
