Kuwait is to spend KWD3 billion (US$10.6b) on road projects over the next five years.
The money will be allocated to a series of projects designed to ease traffic flow throughout the country, including building new highways to link remote areas such as Al-Khiran City, Sabah Al-Ahmad City and the new cities in Mitlaa with other areas.
The largest item on the table is the $2.5 billion Jaber Bridge project which, the Ministry of Public Works says, is in its final stage of review of the financial, technical and engineering reports before the tendering process begins.
Other projects include the Eighth Ring road project, which links the Shuaiba port with the southern regional road via the Burgan oil field; eight projects totalling $1.5 billion are underway while another eight, valued at $46m, were at the design stage.
The country’s roading department has 14 projects totalling $500 million on the go at present, with several due for completion over the next two months.
