RTA inks $27m transport deal with Emirates

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a new contract to shuttle around 15,000 employees of the Emirates Group between their homes and various company locations within the emirate.

Worth AED100m ($27.2m), the deal means that the RTA’s Public Transport Agency (PTA) will lease 68 buses to the airline group over a three-year period.

A senior RTA official claimed that the move was in the context of a new drive by the agency to cut expenditure and maximise revenue.

A senior RTA official claimed that the move was in the context of a new drive by the agency to cut expenditure and maximise revenue.

“By signing these sorts of agreements, the Public Transport Agency is seeking to hit multiple key objectives that revolve around carrying out studies and joint surveys with other stakeholders to identify mobility bottlenecks,” said RTA PTA CEO Essa Al Dosari.

Al Dosari added that the deal would result in fewer private cars on the roads, easing both congestion and pollution.
