Oman logistics sector to benefit from IIC Industrial Innovation Ecosystem

The Industrial Innovation Centre (IIC) has signed an agreement with Oman Logistics Center (OLC ), ASYAD, to build the innovation capacity of the sector through a series of specialised programs and courses.

The wide-ranging agreement also encompasses collaboration on innovation projects and investment opportunities, support for companies within the sector, and the establishment of new start-ups. Members of OLC will also benefit from IIC’s extensive technical and IPR expertise.

Noting the importance of the logistics sector as a contributor to Oman’s GDP, source of job creation and investment opportunity, Dr. Abdulaziz Al Hashmi, director of the Linking & Building Capacity Program said: “We’re delighted to be collaborating with OLC in developing the innovative capacity of this key pillar of the Sultanate’s economic growth and success.”

Al Khattab Al Maani, executive director, OLC said: “This MOU represents OLC’s commitment to innovation and shows our determination to establish it as a central part of our sector. It will help us leverage technology as a disruptive enabler, build human capacity and skills, add value to the economy, attract new business, and meet targets for growth as we maximise returns on the government’s investment in ports, free zones and transport companies and implement the Sultanate of Oman’s Logistics Strategy 2040 (SOLS) to make Oman a global logistics hub.”

Established under the Tanfeedh Program as an independent governmental company, IIC is Oman’s national organization for industrial innovation.

Launched by Madayn in 2017 and governed by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the Centre is tasked to develop the Sultanate’s Industrial Innovation Ecosystem, enabling Omani industries to capitalize on innovation, technology transfer, techno-entrepreneurship, IPR and the knowledge economy.
