City Readiness Committee convenes at Expo 2020 Dubai headquarters

Leaders from key government entities such as Dubai Municipality, RTA, Dubai Airports, and GDRFA discuss key updates

The City Readiness Committee to host Expo 2020 Dubai, chaired by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, director-general of His Highness The Ruler’s Court of Dubai, reviewed key project updates during a meeting attended by officials from Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), and Dubai Airports. 

The committee's third meeting at Expo 2020 Dubai headquarters to discuss preparations for the event was attended by Reem Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, reports Construction Week Online

RTA's board chairman and executive director, HE Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, said that RTA's infrastructure projects in the Expo 2020 Dubai site's vicinity were on track and would be completed "well before" the start of the event on 20 October, 2020. 

Dubai Municipality launched a number of irrigation and landscaping projects across the roads and intersections leading to the Expo 2020 Dubai site earlier in 2019. 

Director-general of Dubai Municipality, Dawood Al Hajri, said these developments would be completed months before October 2020. 

Maj Gen Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, director-general of GDRFA Dubai, shed light on the "smooth entry permit procedures for visitors and specialised training for officers who will be the first point of contact" for attendees of Expo 2020 Dubai. 

Dubai Airports' chief executive officer, Paul Griffiths, said the emirate's airports would be ready by October 2019, one year before Expo 2020 Dubai, to receive the 25 million visitors that Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to attract. 

Commenting on the proceedings, City Readiness Committee's Al Shaibani said: "We were updated in detail of the plans, already under implementation from several Dubai institutions, and we sensed the spirit of one team aiming to deliver an exceptional expo and achieving its goals.

"Dubai Government institutions are integrated with all UAE institutions. They share the common aim of hosting an expo that will be a source of pride for us all, reflecting the vision of our leadership and the aspirations of the UAE people for a future based on innovation, knowledge and openness to the world."

The City Readiness Committee, which held its launch meeting in March, was formed by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Expo 2020 Dubai, to oversee the coordination of the various local and federal entities involved in the organisation of the six-month event, which is the first World Expo planned to be held in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia region.

Among the committee's tasks is to work on a plan of action that includes immigration, transport, logistics, marketing, and tourism for integrated preparedness. 

Attendees at the third meeting of the committe also included director-general of Department of Dubai’s Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Dubai World Trade Centre Authority, Hilal Saeed Almarri; executive chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, Khalifa Al Zafin; and Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Maj Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, according to UAE state news agency, Wam.
