A video captured by CCTV at a petrol station in Saudi Arabia showing an attendant risking his life to extinguish a fire has gone viral on Arabic social media.

Social media users have applauded the heroic efforts of the employee after a car crashed into one of the petrol pumps, causing the fire.

The incident happened during the early hours of Tuesday in the city of Yanbu, located in the Al Madina Province of western Saudi Arabia, according to Gulf News.

Thamer Fayez Al Marzouki is then seen springing into action and putting out the fire with a fire extinguisher.

On Thursday, the chairman and chief executive officer of Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company honoured the employee with a certificate of appreciation.

Eng Mohammad Nagash said the heroic act “reflected the company’s values that above all, protected the public’s safety”.

Social media users took to Twitter to praise Al Marzouki’s courageous act, and posted dozens of positive comments in recognition of his bravery.
