Larsen & Toubro win $252m Omani contract
Larsen & Toubro has won a $251.9m contract for the construction of a road between Bidbid and Sur in Oman.
The Indian engineering and construction firm’s transportation and infrastructure business was awarded the order from Oman's Ministry of Transport and Communications section to build the first part of the second phase of the project.
L&T’s scope of works involve widening the existing 76km two-lane road into a three-lane dual carriageway, construction of ten arch-type interchanges, five vehicular underpasses, seven single-cell pedestrian underpasses, and 15km of linked and service roads along the stretch, the company said in a statement.
“When completed, the project will transform the existing single-lane carriageway into an all-weather motorway, on which vehicles can be driven at a speed of 120km per hour,” L&T said.
“This order augers well for L&T's business expansion plans in the GCC markets,” S N Subrahmanyan, member of the board and senior EVP at L&T, added.
