Norwegian Air is taking its low cost model long-haul by launching flights to Dubai.

Flights will depart twice weekly from Oslo Gardermoen and thrice weekly from Stockholm Arlanda, commencing in October this year.

The ARN-DXB route will be operated by Fly Nordic, which Norwegian Air purchased from Finnair last year. The no-frills, one class service will offer buy-on-board catering, free in-flight entertainment and cheap fares, starting at US$195.

Norwegian Air's CEO, Bjorn Kjos said: "We see no reason not to launch long-haul routes based on our low cost model. Our fleet of 737-800s from Boeing enables us to look even further when analysing future markets and we aim to make good use of the opportunities the extra range gives us." Kjos is expecting the low cost carrier to achieve load factors of above 80% when the flights are launched: "There is a strong demand for this route. We will be the only carrier offering direct flights from Oslo and from Stockholm to Dubai."
