Astrium Services appoints new regional director
Astrium Services, the global provider of satcom enabled solutions, has announced the recent appointment of Roger Harfouch as regional director for maritime – Middle East, Turkey and Africa.
The Gulf region in particular represents an important growth area of global network communications. His core focus will be on developing new business in the region and continuing to provide Astrium Services partners and customers with superior communications for their specific requirements in each sector.
Harfouch brings more than 12 years industry experience with an impressive portfolio of global industry experience. A qualified telecommunications engineer, he has worked across several emerging telecoms markets including Central Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Middle East & North Africa (Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon), Europe (France, Greece, Turkey) where he built and developed international sales channels for several of the largest telecoms solutions companies.
Harfouch said: “Long established now in the region and focused strongly on growing our reputation for outstanding customer support, the Dubai team keeps focused on the continued growth of the merchant sector and the offshore segment.
"As part of Astrium, we remain proactively involved in exceeding the expectations of increasing market demands for VSAT along with the Inmarsat, Iridium and Thuraya services amongst our more niche customers.”
Prior to working for Astrium Services, Harfouch joined Vizada (formerly France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications & Telenor Satellite Services). His focus there was initially on the oil & gas sector extending the companies reach with mobile satcom products such as Inmarsat services to oil exploration customers in the Middle East.
Promoted in 2010 to become international sales manager, he was able to widen his market knowledge into the maritime sector focusing on fleet broadband sales in the Middle East, Greek and French markets.
He currently manages channel distribution of more than 50 key accounts between telecom operators, satellite service providers and others.
Across the Gulf and Middle East, it is the oil and gas and the offshore sectors which Harfouch will be progressing most aggressively, as well as investing time on pushing Astrium Services innovative solutions in parallel with satellite connectivity to meet the increasingly sophisticated demands of the smart ships sector.
Harfouch is a graduate of telecommunications engineering from Notre Dame University in Lebanon.
