National Drilling Company (NDC) has awarded four major maintenance and upgrade projects worth around US$24.5 million to Drydocks World.

The projects will cover three offshore rigs owned by NDC – Al Hail, Al-Ghallan and Al-Ittihad – in addition to its multipurpose barge Al-Ghweifat.

In a ceremony held at NDC head office in Abu Dhabi, NDC chief executive officer Abdalla Saeed Al Suwaidi and DDW vice president – business development and commercial, Eng. Ali AlSuwaidi signed the contract awarded to DDW.

Al Suwaidi underscored the importance of such projects in maintaining the competitive edge of the company and sustaining its reputation that is widely acknowledged and appreciated.

He said: “Our primary consideration is always our clients, and our main objective is fulfilling their requirements through providing the best quality of services, not only in terms of technical execution of jobs, but also, in terms of readiness, reliability, safety and service excellence, therefore, NDC asset renewal plans involve investment in new rigs as well as the modernisation of existing ones.”

This, combined with adopting the international best practices in HSE, the recruitment of highly-skilled professionals, and reinforcing the supportive infrastructure such as centralised field accommodation camps and training centre will ensure that NDC services will surpass industry standards, strategically strengthening the company for decades to come.

The VP of DDW said: “DDW has worked really hard to win these contracts with real commitment on quality and safety. We thank NDC for their continuous support in working as a team in delivering these projects to their expectations.”

Al Suwaidi added that DDW is going forward with its plan of being the number one choice for offshore rig refurbishment and today we have achieved a major milestone in our move towards this goal.

He said: “We have qualified personnel and the industry's leading companies are our business partners. We are looking forward for more business opportunities to work with NDC and other industry players in the world.”

The work has commenced in the first project for rig Al-Hail in DDW and remaining projects will follow subsequently.
