Wednesday Blog: Get interactive

Live a virtual reality with Damen's futuristic marketing creative.

On Tuesday morning you would not be wrong if you thought the team at were just sitting around on their mobiles checking out the latest apps on offer for download.

I admit it, myself and Logistics Middle East editor Ahmad Lala were sitting around on our mobiles, but it was all in the name of work and research (we told our bosses)…

The reason for our appy-hour was the discovery of an interactive element on one of the adverts in the August issue of Maritime & Ports Middle East. On the back page of the mag you will find Damen’s latest print campaign and included in the creative on the left hand side is a three-step process offering interactive content to readers.

For readers who do not have a print copy of M&PME to hand (you can subscribe here by the way) I will explain the process stated on the advert:

  • Step 1: Download the free Layar app for iPhone or Android
  • Step 2: Open the Layar app, hold the phone above this page and tap to scan it
  • Step 3: Hold the phone above the page to view the interactive content

We followed this process and were pleasantly surprised when the download and steps worked perfectly and in a quick amount of time.

The final product was fantastic. I’m not going to spoil the surprise by telling you what happens, but what I will say is that when Damen stated that a reader can view interactive content, you really can. Not only was the content interactive but it gave us a glimpse into a virtual world where print becomes digital at the push of a button.

After viewing the Damen/Layar interactive content, it got me thinking of the use of apps and digital content in the maritime and logistics industries. In fact it got me thinking to the point where in the future we may even publish a feature on the best apps for the supply chain industries.

So come on readers, these days we’re all Tweeting, Facebooking and YouTubing on a regular basis, so why not tell us what your favourite supply chain apps are?

We would love to hear your feedback.
