TNT Express trials biofuels for its UAE fleet
TNT Express has started trials of Biofuel for its UAE fleet with the help of Lootah Biofuels, a fully owned subsidiary of S.S. Lootah Group.
The firm hopes to reduce its carbon footprints with bio diesel producing 10 times less harmful green house emissions than regular diesel.
TNT Express UAE has partnered with Lootah Biofuels to supply locally produced environmentally superior and performance enhancing biodiesel made from used cooking oil for the latter’s commercial vehicles in Dubai.
B5 Biodiesel is simply petroleum diesel that has been blended with used cooking oil (UCO) that has been chemically treated at the high quality biodiesel processor plant at Lootah Biofuels. Making good use of UCO is in itself a further initiative to contribute to environmental sustainability. The key benefits of this initiative include carbon foot print reduction as well as reduction of UCO waste.
It is expected that this initiative by TNT Express UAE and Lootah Biofuels would reduce carbon emissions by approximately 32 tonnes per year. Through using B5, UCO is put into sustainable use as opposed to being discarded as waste, thereby impacting the environment negatively. This is a further step towards environmental sustainability.
“We are incredibly proud of this initiative, it joins other regional initiatives such as our recent CNG vehicle fleet in Pakistan in our continued efforts to reduce carbon emissions company,” says Bryan Moulds, managing director Middle East and sub continent associates.
While Yousif Bin Saeed Al Lootah, CEO, Lootah Biofuels added “Keeping in line with UAE’s vision, the project is a significant step towards sustainable development and the Expo 2020 bid for sustainability. Our mission is to deliver economic, operational and environmental benefits for long-term customer satisfaction and sustainable growth and with the TNT Express agreement we hope to take the consumption of B5 biodiesel to the next level.”
