The World Air Cargo event 2008 begins today in Bahrain and is set to attract a number of leading domestic and international air cargo carriers over the course of the next three days.

Sponsored by the Kingdom's national carrier, Gulf Air, the event will cover a range of themes affecting the modern day global airfreight community.

"Gulf Air is proud to be the official carrier and a sponsor of this important event being held for the first time in the Kingdom of Bahrain, drawing all the key players in the air cargo industry," said Björn Näf, president and chief executive, Gulf Air.

"Bahrain's strategic location in the GCC network presents tremendous business opportunities for the cargo and logistics industry," he added.

Since its inception in 2006 in Dubai, the World Air Cargo event has grown in size and stature to become a prominent platform for the Middle Eastern airfreight industry to converge and network. Alongside Gulf Air, carriers exhibiting at this year's event include Etihad, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Maximus Air Cargo and Qatar Airways.

"All the market conditions are right for an explosive growth in the region and I am confident that every single participant will benefit enormously with the gathering of the world's air cargo community in Bahrain," commented Näf.
