Construction has started on a DP World joint venture logistics centre in the Dominican Republic.

The President of the Dominican Republic, HE Danilo Medina, inaugurated the start of construction of his country’s first logistics centre, “Caucedo Logistics Center”, a joint venture between DP World and the Caucedo Development Corporation.

The centre is located between Port Caucedo and Las Americas International Airport, and will provide regional distribution facilities for businesses.

Phase 1 will see the development of warehousing over 40 hectares in the next three to five years, with a further 80 hectares developed in Phase 2.

The groundbreaking marked the start of construction work, with the first warehouse due for completion in the first quarter next year.

DP World chairman HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem also attended the groundbreaking ceremony. “This is an important milestone for us and for our partners at Caucedo Development Corporation. It opens the door for Dominican Republic importers and exporters to further improve the efficiency of their supply chains with modern facilities close to both the port and the airport. On behalf of DP World I would like to take this opportunity to thank President Medina and his Government for their support of this important project,” he said.

While Caucedo Development Corporation chairman, engineer Samuel Conde, added: “The opening of this logistics centre is a unique opportunity for the entrepreneur who seeks to connect with global trade using the highest standards and the extensive services of a professionally operated logistics park. We are confident that the CLC will become a supporter and driver of economic growth for the Dominican Republic far into the future."
