Postal companies discuss pan-GCC project
Saudi Arabia recently hosted a committee meeting for postal management companies from across the GCC to discuss a proposed mail transportation and logistics company with operations throughout the region.
Delegates at the event received updates on a feasibility study into the project, which is being designed to streamline and speed-up mail transportation in the GCC. The proposed company will also compete with 3PL companies by providing a range of end-to-end supply chain management services.
"The idea basically revolves around the establishment of a transportation and logistics company, owned jointly by the postal authorities of the six GCC countries. However, it will actually operate independently," said Abdullah Al Daboos, director general of Emirates Post.
"Given the estimated level of investment, which is very large, the venture will contribute to the overall growth of the regional logistics industry, linking near and far corners of the GCC and presenting more transportation alternatives to the entire business community," he added.
During the recent meeting, which took place in Jeddah, the postal officials were also given an opportunity to meet His Highness Prince Khalid Al Faisal Bin Abdulaziz, chief of Mecca, who urged for shared expertise to increase the efficiency of mail transportation services within the GCC.
