German lift-truck manufacturer Jungheinrich has announced it will launch a range of explosion-proof lift trucks from September.

Riccardo Rieder, head of the competence centre for explosion-proofing at Jungheinrich, said: “After a period of about one year for the development, we are now able to supply ex-proof trucks first-hand.

“The first step will be to produce Range 2 electric counterbalance trucks as an ex-proof version," he added.

The trucks will be suitable for application in 'ex-proof zone 2' areas, which are places where explosive atmospheres can occur for short periods where inflammable gases mix with air. These include sites in the chemical, pharmaceutical or cosmetics industries where solvents or aerosols are stored.

Jungheinrich's Range 2 electric counterbalance trucks have a maximum lift capacity of two tonnes.

The company says that more trucks in ex-proof design will be available from their Lüneburg factory near Hamburg in Germany in the future.

These will include Range 3 electric counterbalance trucks and Range 2 electric pedestrian pallet trucks.
