Saudia continues Riyadh flight despite passenger death
Saudi Arabian Airlines has been questioned for continuing a Riyadh-bound flight, even though a medical emergency was declared onboard.
According to Emirates 24/7, a 59-year-old man suffered a heart attack while travelling from Jakarta earlier this month. Despite attempts to revive him by a medical student on the flight, the passenger was eventually pronounced dead.
The incident occurred over Sri Lankan airspace, but rather than divert the plane, Saudi Arabian Airlines apparently continued its flight for almost four hours, until landing in Riyadh.
The unnamed passenger had received first aid at Jakarta airport before the flight, but was still cleared to travel by authorities.
“Some passengers and aviation experts expressed their surprise that the aircraft did not make emergency landing to verify the death of the passenger as the pilot relied only on the judgment of a medicine student,” stated the Emirates 24/7 report, quoting coverage by a daily Arabic newspaper.
