The Oman Daily Observer reports that a deal has been struck between the Port of Salalah and Spanish-based global logistics leader Algeposa Group for the construction and operation of a modern distribution centre within the port.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed yesterday in the hope of enhancing Salalah as a leading logistics hub, not only for transshipment cargo, but distribution as well.

“We are pleased to announce the start of this long-term, mutually beneficial relationship with Algeposa. This distribution centre provides Algeposa, and their customers, the ability to easily reach the world’s most desirable emerging markets today. For the Port of Salalah, it proves that the strategic location commonly known to the world’s largest shipping lines is also the optimum location for distribution and manufacturing,” Peter Ford, CEO of Port of Salalah, told the Oman Daily Observer.

The distribution centre is anticipated to capitalise on Salalah’s strategic location to target the emerging markets of East Africa, South Asia and the Gulf.
