Emirates aircraft damaged by severe hailstorm
A passenger flight operated by Emirates Airline was diverted to Prague this week, after the aircraft’s windshields were cracked by a severe hailstorm, it has been reported.
According to Aviation Herald, the airline was heading from Dubai to Munich on flight EK-51 on 14th July 2011 when the incident occurred, around 30nm south of Vienna.
In addition to cracking the windshields, the hail also damaged the paint of the Airbus A330-200’s nose cone.
The aircraft was safely landed on Prague’s runway 24 approximately 40 minutes after the decision to divert.
A bus service was then provided for passengers to reach Munich, with arrival to the city delayed by nine hours in total.
