Bombardier wins US $96 million Jeddah airport job
Bombardier Transportation has been contracted by Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) to design, build, operate and maintain a people mover at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA).
The total value of the contract is US $96 million.
SBG is the master contractor for the redevelopment of KAIA, which is being expanded to accommodate rising numbers of Hajj and Umrah visitors.
The system, based on Bombarider’s Innovia APM 300 technology will move passengers between different terminals at KAIA. Completion of the system is scheduled for the start of 2014.
Bombardier will design and supply all of the electrical and mechanical parts for the 1.5km, dual lane automated people mover. After building, testing and commissioning the system, Bombardier will run and maintain it for four years until 2018, with an option to extend to 2020.
Serge Van Themsche, VP in the systems division of Bombardier Transportation, said: “We are honoured to add the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to our list of prestigious airports served by a Bombardier Innovia transit system.
“Our new generation Innovia APM 300 system will delight airport passengers with its sleek design and exceptional ride quality, and support the airport operator with its highly reliable service.”
