Dubai plans massive expansion of Terminal 2
Dubai Department of Civil Aviation has invited construction firms to prequalify for tenders for the expansion of Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 2.
The terminal is used by flydubai, the state-owned low cost carrier that has grown rapidly since starting operations two years ago.
The work potentially on offer includes a new check-in and departure building, and an extension of the existing terminal building.
The main hall of the new building will be 205m long and 90m wide, and house a check-in area, an immigration section, management offices and a departure facility.
A 70m-long extension to the existing terminal building is also under consideration.
Terminal 2 was refurbished before the June 2009 launch of flydubai. The extension will accommodate the rapid growth of the LCC, which now serves nearly 40 destinations.
