Work has started on two tunnels that form part of a US $190 million road improvement project designed to alleviate traffic in the UAE capital.

The project was awarded to Al Naboodah Contracting Company LLC.

Work includes construction of two tunnels: one that will be 540m long and serving Etihad Towers, and another 700m long located at the intersection between Bainuna Street and Sultan Bin Zayed Street.

The project also includes expanding part of Bainunah Street to four lanes, including a dedicated bus lane to encourage public transport, in addition to a service lane to cater to the hotels in the area.

The project also includes two new intersections on Bainunah Street, as well as improvement works on service lane number 27, which connects Bainunah Street and Sultan Bin Zayed Street.

More Mawaqif parking spaces will also be added on Sultan Bin Zayed the First Street opposite Intercontinental Hotel.
