ILFC, one of the biggest names globally in plane leasing, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to buy 100 A320neo Family planes.

The neo is the next generation version of the A320, with new engines and wing tips that are designed to dramatically increase fuel efficiency.

ILFC’s planned order comprises 75 A320neo and 25 A321neo types.

Pratt & Whitney was named as the engine supplier for at least 60 A320neo Family aircraft.

While the order represents a welcome endorsement of the A320, ILFC is cancelling an agreement to buy ten A380s. The order is also only an MoU at this stage, rather than a firm order.

“With 104 wide bodies on order and fewer than a dozen single aisles it makes perfect sense to rebalance our order book and position ILFC strategically on the fuel-efficient neo,” said Henri Courpron, chief executive officer, ILFC.
