Avolon, an Ireland-based aircraft leasing group, has placed a firm order for eight A320 aircraft.

The planes will be equipped with ‘sharklets’, wing devices designed to increase the plane’s fuel efficiency.

Avolon will make an engine selection for the aircraft in the near future.

“This initial order for eight A320 aircraft, renowned for their efficiency and reliability, complements our existing portfolio and fully rounds out our product-offering”, said John Higgins, Avolon’s president and chief commercial officer.

Airbus is increasingly pushing sharklets as an option with new A320 orders, claiming they can lower fuel consumption by 3.5% over longer flight sectors.
