ADAT plans to service A380 engines in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi will be the location for the world’s first Overhaul Shop and Test Cell Facility for the GEnx and GP7200 engines.
Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) will operate the facility, with construction of it set to start in Q1 2011 and opening scheduled for Q1 2013.
General Electric (GE) has been supporting ADAT in the design of the facility, which will also service the GE90 engine.
GE developed the GEnx engine and is a 50-50 partner in the Engine Alliance, which developed the GP7200, an engine used in the A380.
Homaid Al Shemmari, chairman of ADAT, said: “Today’s announcement is an important milestone for our MRO plans and another example of the strength of the Mubadala GE relationship.
“The ADAT facility will be a world first GE and Engine Alliance facility and brings significant new capability to the region.”
