LEED-rated green warehouse opens in Jebel Ali
Jafza, Gazeley, a division of Economic Zones World, has overseen construction of an LEED Silver logistics facility for CEVA Logistics.
Located in Jebel Ali’s South Zone, the warehouse features solar panels, recycled and locally sourced materials and motion sensitive lighting. These measures reduce its environmental footprint, allowing it to achieve the prestigious LEED green building rating.
In addition, CEVA was able to begin the installation of racking six weeks before completion and commence operations on the day of handover.
Salma Ali Saif bin Hareb, CEO, Economic Zones World said: “The new CEVA facility is a significant achievement that exemplifies the top of the range warehousing facilities that will be the future of logistics infrastructure in the region.
“Such warehouses are expertly designed and are build-to-suit exact customer requirements; sustainable; as well as strategically located.
“We remain committed to providing developments that facilitate the long-term business sustainability of our clients. This project, further, reaffirms our social responsibility & commitment to the environment, which form an integral part of our overall business strategy.”
The facility comprises two units; one with 35,000 square metres of warehouse and 500 square metres of office space and the second with 26,000 square metres of warehouse and 400 square metres of office space.
Construction work was carried out by a newly formed joint venture between ECC and McLaren Construction.
The project originated from EZW’s global customer relationship with CEVA in Europe and followed on from successful deals in Spain and Italy.
EZW provides green warehouses throughout the UK and Europe through its European arm, Gazeley UK.
