Emirates International Maritime Academy (EIMA) has concluded a five-day fire safety and fire-fighting training course and mooring safety for port workers for a select staff of one of the world's leading maritime services provider, P&O Port Services division.

P&O Maritime Services, through its subsidiary P&O Maritime FZE, is the provider of all port services vessels in DP World largest port, Jebel Ali, and also at Port Rashid. The support services are also provided to various coastal maritime operations in the UAE.

The course, conducted within the premises of EIMA in Dubai, covered various critical areas of safety, personal survival techniques, and fire fighting in the marine environment, including extinguishing different types of fire, search and rescue, familiarization with fire fighting equipments, crowed management, and the use of breathing apparatus.

"We are increasing our efforts in developing training activities for different types of marine operators in the region. These courses provide basic training as well as update and refresh the expertise, skills and knowledge in light of new developments in maritime technology and know-how," said Captain Jaafar Bin Sidin, director of EIMA.

"With the massive infrastructure projects and state-of-the-art maritime facilities being developed in the UAE and across the Gulf region, it is important that we provide a parallel initiative that will enhance the practical and theoretical know-how of the entire shipping community, particularly on aspects concerning safety and the environment," he added.

The UAE's National Transport Authority recently awarded full accreditation of the courses and programs being provided by EIMA, affirming the high quality of its offerings and highlighting its commitment to global standards set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

The academy conducts its specialised courses out of a facility within Dubai, with a diverse range of topics covering maritime security, safety and the environment, maritime managements, hazardous operations and risk management in shipping.
