Abu Dhabi hosted its first Global Logistics Forum last month in support of the emirate’s Economic Vision 2030.

The event, which took place at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel, attracted hundreds of people from companies such as DP World, Gulf Logistics & Naval Support, Toll Global Forwarding (TGF), Storall, Abu Dhabi Ports Company and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). It was organised by Abu Dhabi University as part of a long-term partnership with the Berlin Institute of Technology (TU-Berlin) Chair of Logistics, an internationally renowned university in Germany.

And, with the event successfully highlighting the relevance of logistics and transport in the Middle East, a second edition of the Global Logistics Forum has been scheduled to be held in February 2011.

“Despite the economic downturn, the region is still experiencing a strong demand for logistics services and infrastructure and has outpaced the global logistics market. The ongoing infrastructure projects in the UAE requires a proper understanding of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, risks, and success factors from the local and global point of view,” said His Excellency Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, chairman of Abu Dhabi University.

“The Global Logistics Forum managed to successfully address subjects related to Abu Dhabi’s Master Plan and Economic Vision 2030. It brought global supply chain leaders and heads of various international logistics organisations to tackle the needs of the local supply chain and logistics industry and the logistics services and infrastructure in the global economic crisis."
