Swift Freight International has become the latest company to reserve space at Dubai Logistics City (DLC).

The freight forwarder has reserved a total of 28,000m2 at the site for a purpose-built logistics centre. In addition, another 25,000m2 has been earmarked for an airside facility at the adjoining Dubai World Central airport.

"DLC is a great location for logistics providers operating in the Middle East, especially with its close proximity to the new airport, Jebel Ali Port and Jebel Ali Free Zone," said Balasubramanian Rajagopalan, managing director, Swift Group. "With the huge new airport being planned, we believe DLC is the future of Dubai."

Construction for the new facilities is scheduled to commence this year, with operations beginning as soon as Dubai Logistics City is opened. The site will be dedicated to Swift Group's 3PL and warehousing services, whilst the airside location will handle airfreight and combined sea-air transportation. The facility will also include additional services, such as import and export clearance, documentation and local transport.

The company has also initiated plans to expand its Swift 5 logistics centre in Jebel Ali Free Zone. Due for completion in September 2007, the expansion will provide 5450m2 of extra space for dry storage, with over 12,500 pallet positions and variant temperature possibilities. Part of a new two-storey office block will also be available for leasing.

"These expansion plans will more than double our operations, whilst providing more options to customers on different types of storage," said Rajagopalan.
