SPAN completes first phase of colossal warehouse
Material handling specialist SPAN has handed over the first stage of Agility’s mammoth new warehousing hub, based in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai.
The distribution centre, which is well over a quarter of a million square metres, is the Kuwaiti logistics firm’s largest in the Middle East.
SPAN was awarded the first of three phases of construction, which involved supplying storage and material handling equipment. The project included very narrow aisle (VNA) and selective racking, with bay load capacity of up to 20 tonnes and rack sprinkler systems.
The 15-metre-high racking, laid out on the 60,000 square-metre floor, allows for an intial storage capacity of 95,000 pallet locations as well as seven additional rooms fitted with high quality system shelving required for the storage of small items.
"This new asset to our portfolio is a significant sign of our commitment to the market and our determination to provide the strongest integrated logistics network in the Middle East,” said Elias Monem, CEO Agility Global Integrated Logistics, Middle East & Africa.
“It is one of many upcoming growing assets including environment controlled warehousing, pallet storage positions, open yard storage and fleets of vehicles across all our operating countries. This will enable us to provide the best and highest quality service to our clients,” Monem added.
