Supply chain giant FedEx Express is celebrating after winning the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award in both the Supply Chain & Logistics and Corporate Social Responsibility categories.

This is the first time the awards – organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry – have included the supply chain industry, so the win represents a significant achievement for the company.

“By competing for the awards, FedEx demonstrates that it follows the highest international business standards.  We are honored to be recognised for this contribution to the market and we always seek to be the best in offering flexibility and innovative transportation solutions to our customers,” said Hamdi Osman, senior vice president, FedEx Express Europe, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.

However, the company has still not confirmed whether or not employees from the Middle East will be laid off in a recent round of cuts made as a result of the economic downturn.

Terminal operator DP World also picked up an award for excellence and entrepreneurship in the Supply Chain & Logistics category.

“We are proud and honoured to be recognised with this award. It has extra meaning for us as it is Sheikh Mohammed’s vision for the future of this nation that has guided and inspired us, and that has contributed to our success,” said Mohammed Sharaf, CEO of DP World.
