Some 55 firefighters from Ajman Civil Defence, and dozens more from Dubai, Sharjah, and Umm Al Quwain tackled a massive Ajman warehouse fire through the night.

The blaze broke out in a furniture warehouse in the Al Jarf area and quickly spread to three other warehouses.

"The fire was spreading rapidly due to the huge quantity of flammable substance stored at the warehouses,” said Brigadier Abdel Aziz Ali Shamsi, general director of the Ajman Civil Defense.

“No injuries were caused as the Ajman police and Civil Defence immediately vacated the premises of the warehouses. A large amount of smoke was seen billowing the sky and the whole area around the warehouses was cordoned off to ensure the fire did not spread to neighbouring warehouses," he added.

The police closed all roads leading to the warehouses to keep the routes clear for the emergency services as 800,000 litres of water and 6,500 litres of foam were dumped to cool down the four buildings.

The premises have now been handed over to the police for the investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
