Leaders in Logistics: ALS comes out stronger following 2017 uncertainty
Walid Khoury, managing director, ALS Logistic Solutions says the uncertainty of 2017 was like a ‘cyclone’, but at the Leaders in Logistics summit it will be looking to 2018.
Why is it important that you support the Leaders in Logistics Summit?
Leaders in Logistics is a key event in the industry that gathers under one roof partners and colleagues to showcase major projects, innovations and market opportunities. Organized in a friendly atmosphere, Leaders is Logistics combines presentations, case studies, informal conversations and 1-on-1 session formats that fit all purposes.
What do you think are the main challenges facing the logistics industry in 2017?
There are lots of challenges in terms of business acquisition and we have seen a lot of contracts cancelled or put on hold, most of them indefinitely. Unexpectedly we have seen major customers affected by the low oil prices and in turn the whole supply chain and logistics market was affected. Uncertainty was carried on in 2017 but we can definitely say that we have survived this cyclone and come out stronger.
What most excites you about the UAE supply chain and logistics industry in 2017?
Internet of Things (IoT) is not a new advent anymore, it is the reality of modern life and business. We can definitely say that automation, robotics and autonomous driving are the most exciting part of logistics industry development that opens huge opportunities and allows us to step into a new phase of technology.
What are the main topics you expect to come up at the Leaders in Logistics Summit?
We are always keen on discovering what the market offers in terms of latest warehouse technologies and hopefully discussing with our peers the local case studies and challenges.
What are the latest product/service launches from your company?
We are happy to announce our strategic partnership with S-P-S Holland, one of the leading suppliers of ground support equipment and materials handling equipment in Europe. Also, we will soon announce a new partnership with the world leader Ground Support Equipment supplier in the world to be their technical base for support and services in the Middle East.
What other news can we expect from your company in 2017/2018?
2017 is expected to end up with significant alliances and large project acquisition in the region for ALS. We look forward to share the good news shortly.
