ETA Ascon Star Group takes new delivery
The first of three 83,000-tonne Kamsarmax vessels has been delivered to the shipping division of ETA Ascon Star Group, with the second and third ships arriving in October 2008 and January 2009, respectively.
Built in Japan, the ‘Star of Emirates’ is the largest-type vessel that can fit into the world’s largest bauxite port – Port Kamsar, in Guinea. Kamsarmax-type bulk carriers have a capacity of 82,000 dead weight tonnes (dwt) Panamax, with increased LOA (Length Over All). ‘Star of Emirates’ has a maximum capacity of 83,000 dwt.
“We are keen on expanding and upgrading our fleet to meet increasing regional and global demands,” said Ahmed Abdullah Al Ghurair, director, ETA Ascon Star Group. “The acquisition of the three vessels also consolidates our position as the largest private ship operator in the Middle East market controlling over 70 vessels of various sizes in dry and wet sectors.”
‘Star of Emirates’ has received the appropriate certification from the International Maritime Organisation and the American Bureau of Shipping Standards agencies. The vessel’s maiden voyage will see it dock shortly in Australia on a mission to collect a consignment of coal.
“The Shipping Division of ETA Ascon Star Group is committed to safe ship operation applying international safety standards and also operates a crew training facility in Mumbai in India with strict adherence to quality and safety,” indicated Ameer Faisal, executive director, shipping division.
