Cavotec has secured an order from APM Terminals to install its latest generation of automated mooring units at the Port of Salalah in Oman.

As part of the order, the engineering company will deliver 12 MoorMaster MM3200C units in October 2008, which will replace the existing MM600 units at the Port of Salalah’s Berth 5.

“MoorMaster has a proven track record in creating substantial time and cost savings for operators, and is also far safer than traditional mooring techniques,” said Ottonel Popesco, chief executive officer of Cavotec MSL.

“Put simply, our technology provides greater reliability and boosts profitability, while offering significant efficiency gains thanks to reduced mooring times and accelerated cargo handling operations,” he added.

MoorMaster is a vacuum-based automated technology that is designed to moor vessels in seconds, eliminating the need for conventional mooring lines. The MM3200C solution in particular is a near universal application within container and bulk ports, with the ability to handle any ship class, including the new PS-class of 11,000 TEU.
