Chinese construction and engineering firm Beijing Construction Engineering Group International has broken ground on a logistics facility at Airport City Manchester.

The US$15 million logistics center is part of the £1 billion Alpha project, and is expected to drive project cargo demand as well as providing longer term breakbulk capacity in the area.

“We’ve reached a crucial stage at the project and we’re now on-site getting on with construction at Alpha. We are seeing high levels of interest in Alpha from firms keen to take advantage of the exceptional transport and business connectivity on offer here,” said Xing Yan, managing director at BCEGI.

The 130,000-square-foot Alpha project will connect with Manchester Airport’s World Freight Terminal, which handles 100,000 tonnes of cargo per year.
