Aramex held its Annual Leaders Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh last month, where discussions on corporate social responsibility within the logistics industry dominated the agenda.

The theme of the event, ‘Changing Today, Protecting Tomorrow’, attracted over 350 executives from Aramex and was designed to emphasis the company’s strategy to become the first logistics company in the world with carbon-neutral operations.

Speaking at the conference, Aramex founder and CEO Fadi Ghandour stressed that corporate sustainability represents an important opportunity for the company to make a long-term investment that will ultimately benefit significantly its profit levels in the future.

“By stepping up and playing a more active role in the development of our communities, we stand to gain both strategically and financially,” he told delegates. “We’ve made major advances in this area. However, sustainability needs to become an integral part of our corporate culture.”

Since last year’s conference at the Dead Sea in Jordan, Aramex has made major strides as a socially-responsible company, highlighted by its membership of the United Nations ‘Global Compact’ initiative in December 2007, which aims to engage the private sector in positive global corporate practices.

The company also received an award for Corporate Social Responsibility at this year’s Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA) in Dubai.
