Passenger arrested for making threats on flydubai plane
Ukraine's Security Service detained a Russian citizen at Kyiv airport after he threatened to blow up a flydubai plane, which had departed from Dubai.
The SBU Security Service reported that the man threatened the flight crew just before landing. According to airport spokesperson Halyna Bohdanenko, he said he had explosives in his possession.
"One of the passengers on board told the crew that he had explosives on him... The passenger was drunk and behaved inappropriately... The crew relayed the information to the dispatch service of our airport,” said Bohdanenko.
“It was 10 minutes before the plane landed. After the landing, it was met not only by regular airport services, but also with the SBU and a bomb squad," she added.
According to the SBU head's chief of staff Oleksandr Tkachuk, the man is a citizen of the Russian Federation. Tkachuk also noted that another Russian citizen was detained on suspicion of being involved in the incident.
No passengers were harmed and a search of the aircraft found no explosives.
The incident comes just days after a Dubai-Russia flight operated by flydubai crashed while trying to land at Rostov-On-Don. All passengers on-board were killed, but authorities do not suspect terrorism at this time.
